Omnitsky Kosher | Our History

The original Omnitsky Kosher opened its doors in 1910 in the heart of the Jewish Community on Selkirk Avenue, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The founder and original owner was Louis Omnitsky. Louis trained his son William, who took over the business in the 1950s and moved it to the Main street location in the north end of Winnipeg.

On July 1st 1983, Eppy Rappaport purchased the business from William Omnitsky.

In January 1997, Eppy opened the old location at 5866 Cambie Street, Vancouver, British Columbia.

On 21 September 2014, Eppy opened the new current location at 5775 Oak Street, Vancouver, British Columbia.

In Vancouver, Eppy expanded the business at both the retail and wholesale levels. At the retail level, he introduced a soup and sandwich bar. Vancouver customers are now able to get soups from scratch and extremely healthy sized delicatessen sandwiches. The sandwiches are a solid 1/3rd pound of locally made delicatessen products. There are 15 different choices of delicatessen products freshly made each day.

At the wholesale level, Eppy started producing gluten-free hot dogs. There is no MSG used in any of the products. They are a healthy alternative for the discerning consumer. Eppy has continued to proudly produce quality, healthy products for the educated consumer. Many of these products can be found under the Eppy’s Kosher label at a variety of grocery stores throughout the Lower Mainland and select stores on Vancouver Island.
